The fight continues.
In just four months, we’ve seen democracy erode, privacy invaded by unelected officials, and US citizens deported without due process. The need to mobilize for the battles ahead is undeniable.
For people of color, however, the fight is a daily reality, predating the current administration. Access to basic rights like quality healthcare, equitable housing, wages, and freedom from racial injustice has always been a struggle.
And we will never stop fighting.
GRIOT is dedicated to supporting our elders through these challenges. Our expanded focus on mental health, financial security, and advocacy will provide vital resources each month.
Mental Health: Beyond our support groups, we’ve launched several programs addressing trauma, PTSD, and depression, integrating these crucial discussions into programs like CoffeeTalk to offer culturally sensitive support.
Financial Security: We empower our aging members with knowledge about scams targeting seniors, the dangers of AI-driven exploitation, and strategies for improving credit scores, ensuring a more secure financial future.
Advocacy: Now more than ever, we equip our members with practical tools for advocacy at local and national levels. We highlight opportunities to engage with community boards and neighborhood groups, as well as advocate for their health against social injustices, and for their ability to age in place.
GRIOT’s strength lies in our collective action. We stand alongside our community partners, dedicated Board, and the invaluable supporters who understand that every contribution fuels change.
And crucially, we stand with you. Your belief in our mission ensures that LGBTQ+ elders of color have not just a home, but a welcoming space for themselves and for those who will one day rely on a space like GRIOT.
