Nutrition & Meals Program
GRIOT Circle’s in-person nutrition program is led by facilitator Just Say Yes Nutrition Workshop.
The nutrition class for LGBTQ+ POC (people of color) older adults focuses on promoting healthy eating habits while celebrating cultural diversity. The curriculum includes discussions on nutritional basics, meal planning, and the importance of balancing traditional foods with modern dietary guidelines. Participants learn about nutrient-dense foods that are often found in their cultural diets and how to make healthier choices without losing the flavors and traditions they love.
The class also addresses specific health concerns common in older adults, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart health, offering tailored advice and recipe modifications. Interactive cooking demonstrations allow participants to engage hands-on, while group discussions foster a sense of community and support. Attendees are encouraged to share their own cultural recipes and experiences, creating a rich exchange of knowledge.
