GRIOT Circle’s Celebration Benefit

21st Anniversary Celebration Benefit

October 3, 2017

The LGBT Center in Manhattan.

We achieved what we intended for this event – to honor those that have been on the front lines

of the LGBTQ movement, particularly for communities of color, and continue to serve as community voices.

This year we honored three individuals that truly embody the values and mission of the organization.

They included:

Achebe Powell – an acclaimed consultant and dynamic trainer on issues of racial justice,

cultural competency, and diversity. She is the founding mother of Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice;

Barbara Turk  – NYC’s Director of Food Policy and former Executive Director of the YWCA and HIV Care Services

Keith Boykin – Journalist, author, political commentator for CNN & founder and former president

of the National Black Justice Coalition.

We are very thankful for your support – those that were present, couldn’t attend, and those that were supporting us in spirit. To all our supporters, old and new,

we hope you continue to support us as we continue to honor the elders and ancestors who have blazed a path for us.

Elders who continue to be an important part of our communities. Working together we lift up the voices and strengthen the experiences of LGBTQ elders of color.

“Thank you for making our 21st Anniversary Celebration Benefit

an immense success.” — José Albino, Executive Director
