Amanda Lugg

Arriving in New York from the UK in 1993, Amanda began her work in HIV/AIDS direct services as the Evening Head Chef at God’s Love We Deliver. After working as a Community Organizer for AIDS Walk 1998, she joined African Services Committee (ASC); a community-based human rights organization in Harlem that provides health, housing, legal and social support services to over 8,000 immigrants each year.  As ASC’s Director of Advocacy and LGBT Programming, Amanda works at the intersection of healthcare and immigration by advocating for sound and effective public policy that ensures affordable and quality healthcare for immigrant and asylum-seeking populations and directs ASC’s LGBT program, promoting health and human services for African and Caribbean LGBT immigrants and asylum seekers.

Amanda has sat on a number of non-profit boards including Detention Watch Network, the Queer Detainee Empowerment Project (QDEP); and since 2001 continues to serve as a core member of Health GAP (Global Access Program).  She is currently a board member of Griot Circle, a community-based organization that addresses the needs of older LGBTQ people of color, and a board member of Physicians for a National Health Program – NY Metro Chapter. Amanda also serves as a member of the HIV Health and Human Services Planning Council of New York
